SPE 3535 -SDAP Seminar: Community Access Course

This course provides diverse learners in the Scholars with Diverse Abilities Program with an opportunity to access information that is important to being a successful college student and community member during their enrollment at Appalachian State University. Specifically, the class will provide instruction to the group of SDAP students together, as well as individualized instruction,based on person centered planning. Topics include: navigating the college experience, academic skills, life skills, and career development.

SDAP -Tutoring/Study Hall

Individual support is offered to Appalachian students in the SDA Program to help promote academic success. Each student will have a paid tutor support as well as a study hall offered each semester.

SDAP- Senior Seminar

Senior Seminar is offered for the last semester to help support transition from college into gainful employment or other option specified by the student. This course includes specific career development along with individualized guidance based on student need (i.e. living accommodations, social environment, post college expectations, job searches, etc.)

Selected Academic Courses

Academic courses that are related towards the student’s career goals will be chosen by the student with support from the SDAP office staff.

SDAP Educational Internship

Each semester, with the help of the Transition and Career Coordinator, and other employment support agencies students will research, interview for, and obtain an internship position (paid or unpaid) related to their career goals.
